Welcome to the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation (BOS) Alternative Technologies website. This site is dedicated to the ongoing effort of BOS to divert solid waste from landfills to alternative technologies processes to convert waste to renewable energy sources.

City of Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa and City Council members have directed the BOS on working closely with community stakeholders and City residents to provide education and information focused on the need to implement new technologies that address Los Angeles’ growing trash problem. We invite you to learn more about these Alternative Technologies that are used extensively in other countries for the process for solid waste and are now being considered in the United States.
